Visit Texas’ Prairies and Lakes Region

The Prairies and Lakes Region of Texas is a large region that houses famous cities like Dallas and Fort Worth. The old cliché saying “everything is bigger in Texas” rings true in this region that spans more than 350 miles from its northern to southern border. There is something about the vibe that Texas gives off, whether you are in a busy city or a more laid back farming locale. The Prairies and Lakes region has endless activities to offer, both in the city and in the country. You are sure to find something for everyone on your trip.


Dallas, Texas has been the center and heart of many famous movies and films. It is no wonder, considering Dallas is one of the largest cities in the entire country. A city this grand deserves all of the attention it is given. Dallas is filled with fun and exciting attractions like the Sixth Floor Museum, the Dallas Zoo, the Dallas Museum of Art, and many more. Another great place to see is Fair Park, home to the fantastic State Fair of Texas. The State Fair is held every fall in September and October in true Texas fashion. Bigger is better, right?

If you are looking for an authentic Texas cowboy experience, look no farther than Forth Worth. Located in the Prairies and Lakes region with Dallas, Fort Worth is the opposite of Dallas. Here you can tour the largest honky tonk in the world, Billy Bob’s Texas. If that isn’t cowboy enough for you, take a tour at the Stockyards National Historic District. Here you will find the Stockyards Collection & Museum, which gives a great view of history. The Fort Worth Zoo is fun for the family, with over 200 native Texas animals. Another unique and fun activity in Fort Worth is the National Cowgirl Museum

Waco, Texas is located in the southern part of the Prairies and Lakes region. Waco is considered the heart of the region, and the busy city holds up to its name. Waco is filled with attractions and there is a little something for everyone. The Dr Pepper Museum and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum are two very popular places to visit. For the sports nuts there is the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Thanks to its southern location, Waco is a great place to enjoy some fun in the sun. Stillhouse Hollow Lake, Lake Belton, Lake Brazos, among others, are great places for water activities.

The Prairies and Lakes region of Texas is a diverse and wonderful place to visit. Whether you are looking for big city fun or a cowboy themed vacation, the Prairies and Lakes region has you covered. While you are there, cover as much ground as possible. Be sure to visit everything from the popular Dallas, to the western themed Fort Worth.
